    An Oscar Niemeyer wonderland. After a long flight we were met at the airport by the hotel-arranged driver and whisked to Gran Melia. Very professional - a great start to our trip. Slightly put off by the arrogant front desk person but this was proven to be an anomaly - every staff member for the rest of the stay was super professional, warm, helpful and a credit to the Melia brand. Lovely modern room with a super comfy bed and great bathroom. Breakfast was good - again lovely staff - it did feel a little 'big hotel style' but it is a big hotel so it's probably unfair to say that! The restaurant is of a very high standard so bravo to the chefs. Stunning architecture, beautiful grounds and we loved the pool area. We were unlucky with the weather but still enjoyed lounging on the terrace and by the pool when the rain gave us a break. The level of security is very high so we relaxed into to Brazil trip quickly. We felt it was a pretty safe neighbourhood too though not an expert on this. We did use a guide to explore Rio and would thoroughly recommend if you are a bit of a scaredy cat like me! A big thank you to Celia for being a wonderful ambassador for the Melia. Absolutely recommend the Gran Melia and will definitely be back.... More

    Highlights - 2 minutes walk from the beach - new hotel, excellent rooms and views - beautiful pool and good gym - 10-15 minutes drives to Ipanema and surrounding areas - Ubers are very convenient and safe for travel within Rio - Airport is approx 30 to 40 minutes away in normal traffic Recommend this place, no complains, just good experiences...     Not only the stunning views, the ultra-modern room, the immaculate service the reachly assorted breakfast, The huge lobby, but also the spotless cleanliness of the entire hotel. the room is cleaned twice a day! the pool is slightly heated so it can be used in all weather. We stayed there for 7 days in November and , the weather was perfect. (27deg.C) We were on half board and the menu was "a la carte" with an unbelievable service we got from Lucas who spoke fluent English and fulfilled all our culinary needs!! It is true that ithe Melia is not in the center or Copacabana, but the beach in San Canrado is less crowded, and the trip to Copacabana and Ipanema, (where most of the action is), is less than 10 minutes by metro. (Taxi is much longer due to heavy traffic) The metro is 10 minutes walk, but we used a taxi to Metro station ( 7 Reals). and the Metro is free for those over 60!! All excursions to Sugar loaf , Corcovado, National Theater etc... were on our own, very easy to reach and much cheaper even when using a taxi to get there. We visited the next-door Hotel Royal Tulip (Pullman) which was 15% cheaper, but nothing to compare! (It's an old Hotel which has not been remodeled).     Absolutely amazing!

    We were in Brazil for about two weeks and this was the last hotel we stayed in and was certainly the best one. When we arrived, check-in was welcoming and friendly. She gave us a full scope of the site and we were very comfortable. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the view from our room was spectacular. We had a view of the city/beach/mountain. The room was spacious, clean and had everything we could possibly need. The outdoor swimming pool with the view of the ocean was also great, the water was warm, the bar staff were attentive. You can walk out of the hotel to be at the beach in 10 seconds. Breakfast buffet was devilish and had a lot of variety. Most importantly, literally every single person working at the hotel was extremely nice, always available to help and made sure we were getting the best experience. The hotel truly had everything you needed to enjoy Rio and we would love to come back!... More

    We went to Rio for a weekend and stood at Gran Melia, which has a fantastic design, a wonderful view from Sao Conrado Beach and also very nice restaurants and bars. This hotel was closed for many years and its reopening was done in great style. Highly recommended.... More

Policies
  1. Guest must be over 18 years of age to check-in to this hotel.
  2. As per Government regulations, it is mandatory for all guests above 18 years of age to carry a valid photo identity card & address proof at the time of check-in. Please note that failure to abide by this can result with the hotel denying a check-in. Hotels normally do not provide any refund for such cancellations.
  3. The standard check-in and check-out times are 12 noon. Early check-in or late check-out is subject to hotel availability and may also be chargeable by the hotel. Any early check-in or late check-out request must be directed to and reconfirmed with the hotel directly.
  4. Failure to check-in to the hotel, will attract the full cost of stay or penalty as per the hotel cancellation policy.
  5. Hotels charge a compulsory Gala Dinner Supplement during Christmas, New Year's eve or other special events and festivals like Diwali or Dusshera. These additional charge are not included in the booking amount and will be collected directly at the hotel.
  6. There might be seasonal variation in hotel tariff rates during Peak days, for example URS period in Ajmer or Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, the room tariff differences if any will have to be borne and paid by the customer directly at the hotel, if the booking stay period falls during such dates.
  7. All additional charges other than the room charges and inclusions as mentioned in the booking voucher are to be borne and paid separately during check-out. Please make sure that you are aware of all such charges that may comes as extras. Some of them can be WiFi costs, Mini Bar, Laundry Expenses, Telephone calls, Room Service, Snacks etc.
  8. Some hotels may have policies that do not allow unmarried / unrelated couples or certain foreign nationalities to check-in without the correct documentation. No refund will be applicable in case the hotel denies check-in under such circumstances. If you have any doubts on this, do call us for any assistance
  9. Any changes or booking modifications are subject to availability and charges may apply as per the hotel policies.
Booking Policies

  6. The total price is inclusive of all applicable taxes.   8. Some hotels may require guest(s) to furnish a valid photographic proof of identity in original at the time of Check-in. Kindly carry the same along with you to avoid any inconvenience.   9. Note PAN Cards will not be accepted as a valid ID card.
  10. All refund requests must occur within 60 days of hotel check-out. Any refund for checking out early or for no shows will be given at the sole discretion of goomo.com.
  11. In case of increase in tariff during the URS period in Ajmer or Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, the customer is liable to pay the difference if the Check-in date falls during those periods.
  12. Goomo acts purely as an agent to hotels/suppliers, hence Goomo shall not be responsible for issuance of any invoices on hotel room charges.
