    Ok but not great.
    on Nov 6, 2017
We camped here in August as a group of 4 tents, with 5 adults and 6 kids, so a good mix. Tents get the poor end of the deal here. Camping is a long way from facilities, the ground is 90% on a slope (unless you pay for electric which seem to be on the flat), the grass was long and obviously hadn't been cut for quite some time, (so when it rained you got very wet walking to the loos), there were two nearby toilet blocks (but one conveniently closed at peak time from 5pm to 9am) so the other was always out of toilet paper or had blocked loos and were generally dirty. When booking the holiday I was told there were no icepack freezer facilities, but in fact there are. We were also told no gazebos were allowed, but there quite a few pitched, and given the heavy rain, they were needed. Apart from that, the food was good, plenty of variety, although a little pricey. The evening entertainment was good, but the daytime kids entertainment was pretty dreadful and seemed to be run on a shoestring budget and not a patch on that offered at competing park chains, The pool was very small, so on wet days there was typically a wait time to get in, and as others have remarked tiny dirty changing facilities. The staff were helpful and friendly, free internet in the bar area, and plenty of sockets for charging mobiles, although very poor reception, and never enough seats for peak time shows. The children's play park was ok, but quite small. Finally, the instructions to get there were not very clear, depending on the direction you arrived from. So, all in all, this park was ok, but there are plenty of parks with better facilities and daytime entertainment. Jason... More

Cheesy John Fowler holiday at its best!
    on Oct 28, 2017
First time at widemouth bay but have stayed at other John Fowler sites. It’s not my idea of a holiday but the children LOVE IT and that’s all that matters. We stayed in a platinum caravan and it was lush, had a dishwasher a walk in wardrobe a huge shower and a built in sound system. Was clean and well equipped! Sadly the only downside is the mattress, I had the worst nights sleeps every night due to the shinny waterproof mattresses the sheets refuse to stay on for the night my boy was wrapped in his most mornings. I totally get why the caravans have these but why are fitted sheets/ protectors not put on under the sheet to prevent a night of ice skating. Had a problem with a very loud work men smoking out side talking extremely loud in the caravan next to me which kept my children awake and then woke me at 11.30, I was shocked that John Fowler took large groups of same gender and work men. My husband didn’t join me till the end of the week so I was to worried to ask the men to be quite. However stripy Chantelle marched me to reception and it was dealt with by security and I heard no more! So the stripies!!!!! Chantelle...... goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome she is caring and loving my children adore her. She is down to earth and is so likeable she says it like it is! Kennedy.... is friendly and welcoming She is so funny and has such a infectious laugh!!! Her and Chantelle work perfectly together Kornella.... Is a hilarious and totally scatty!!! She the most amazing dancer I have ever seen when she danced the room was silent truly beautiful! This has defiantly been our fav John Fowler holiday!!!! ... More

A base but not much more
    on Oct 27, 2017
Ok so we didn’t pay a lot to be here and the basic caravan was as we expected, clean, warm and functional. We really only came here as we wanted to visit the area and not pay the earth for somewhere to sleep! The park was as basic as the caravan, poorly stocked shop (as it is end of season and they don’t put in an order for the end of October), the most miniature of miniature golf courses, the smallest play park both pointless if you have kids over five! The tiniest arcade with half the machines not working, mud everywhere as they drive a golf buggy around the pedestrian paths which chews up the grass, dodgy concrete steps to the caravans and the most dreadful entertainment you have ever seen unless you happen to like watching someone dancing round with a traffic cone on their head! The pool was clean and warm but if you are going with friends they better be very close to you as the changing area is 4ft square and not big enough to turn round in let alone fit a family! It used to be an outdoor pool but they installed a roof and didn’t think about how concrete slabs would be an ideal growing ground for algae in the lowered light levels so had to cover the floor in pool mats which hide how uneven the surface is. If you just want a base and don’t plan to be on site much then stay here! ... More

    Will definitely return next year
    on Oct 24, 2017
we stayed for a week and couldn't be happier with the price we paid. Very clean and well looked after park, unfortunately the food was the only less than perfect issue. The staff were amazing! Everyone we had dealings with couldn't do any more to make our stay a pleasant one. The entertainment was very good and kept the children very happy, we met 2 of the entertainers who really went above and beyond to make their holiday very special and look after them, they haven't stopped talking about Chantelle and leanne since! Very dedicated young ladies and a credit to the park. will definitely be booking again next year.... More

Cheap but certainly comfortable and cheerful
    on Oct 21, 2017
Spent a week in one of the older caravans on site due to very reasonable price.... CARAVAN....was a little bit "tired" but we booked knowing that it was one of older ones...however clean, comfortable, all kitchen appliances and shower worked and bed comfy......and had a fantastic sea view. Absolute value for money, especially when a camping pod could easily cost 3 times as much. BAR AND RESTAURANT.....Having been on a static caravan park before I was expecting the worst....dusty, dim, cobwebs etc..but very very pleasantly surprised. Food was very good and prices in line with prices that pubs and restaurants in town would charge, decent selection of drinks, very nice decor, clean and bright....in fact very inviting altogether. Excellent value breakfast this morning before we left as well OTHER COMMENTS. Small swimming pool on site which is open for the best part of day with an attendant on duty. Entertainment team:- Chantelle, Leanne, Cornelia and Kennedy were very hard working, very friendly and their enjoyment of their jobs showed. Would certainly stay there again.... More
