I am honestly sorry not to be able to give a very positive feedback to this place, because it is run by GREAT people and the atmosphere is gorgeous. The owner, a retired pilot, speaks perfect English and he will welcome you in a really warm and pleasant way. Food is excellent, home-prepared by a lovely madame (probably the best eaten in India, since I asked for a cut down on chilly!) and the service is kind and perfect. But…
The room rate is not budget, we paid about 20Euros per night for a super de-luxe room, in an area that is very far from everything. You must add to your budget at least 10Euros a day in transport just to go and come to the hotel from any place in Calcutta, since the bus service is not frequent and the stop is quite far. When you use the bus service it takes 2 and a half hours to get to Kolkata centre. The 5 kilometers of distance indicated in the site is fake, since it takes around 12/16 km to any place in town (1 hour and something each drive!).
The room we were given was badly furnished and quite dirty, it had a window, but it was blocked, so humidity was very high and there was some stink of mould around (we actually couldn’t use the wardrobe for the stink!). If you check the pictures you’ll realise that the average maintainance was poor and even hot water was a disaster. The room is serviced with a very small water boiler, so you have to rush if you want to have enough for 2 showers in the morning. Actually it was hardly enough to wash my wife’s hair, even closing the water between a shampoo and the other. With all my respect, I must add that attached to the room there is a family with a very little toddler, who hasn’t stopped crying and shouting night and day, so the quality of sleep and relax was really compromised. When the kid was quiet (or probably overwhelmed by the drill and hammer), there were men at work just in the front of the door, so our four-night-treat in a superior deluxe room was really a failure. Again, I am very sorry for the people who run the place, but I would never go back again.
Give it a pass

The location of this guest house is good but the rooms were not so good. The bathroom was very bad. The staff were aloof and not very helpful. This property has a lot of scope for improvement in terms of hygiene and hospitality.
Adorable Home Stay

It's been a while since i traveled back to Kolkata and this time again i had to choose this guest house due to my memorable experience last time. I must say the owners have upgraded the property since my last stay - fresh soothing paint, huge long beds, LED TV's
The best thing about this place is the FOOD...A must try..Hint : Ask for the owner's son & wife so their offering of unique delicacies which they prepare on their own. A must try is the Lagan ka Keema and Hot & Spicy Fried Chicken.
My work suits the location as its a stones throw distance from Wipro campus and College More in Salt Lake Sector V Area.
Amazing stay once again. Highly recommend the experience
Very Bad Experience
on Aug 11, 2017
I stayed here for one day in December 2016 and it was a very bad experience. I was coming back from Bangkok along with a friend and had to travel to Hyderabad the next day so I booked this hotel in salt lake CL block based on its good reviews.
I reached the Hotel which was actually a Guest house and I was told that I was allotted a room in a different building and so I was taken there and the building looked good from outside but as soon as I entered it nothing was good. There was no proper lock for the door and the bathroom was filthy. The bed sheets used were not fresh and they were not in white colour. We were supposed to get free breakfast but none was provided. The staff in the building were clueless about it.
Great Service - but less "smokey" environment requested

Can't complain on any dimension except for the intense smell of cigarette smoke that emanates from many rooms. If that does not bother you, the best (no frill) B&B place that I have come across in some time.
