Not worth, low quality

I had to choose a hotel near us consulate for a day in chennai and unfortunately ended up here. Flush tank in toilet didn't had a knob. They dont check if rooms are livable before handing over keys. I booked from yatra.com, never knew they list under quality hotels for premium price.
Top choice for visa seekers looking for a budget stay
on Aug 20, 2017
Stayed here for sometime as I had some work in Teynampet. The property is highly recommended for those visiting Chennai for USA visa interview and looking for a pocket friendly place to stay near the consulate.
There are other branded hotels like Marriott on the same road but they are further away from the consulate. If you are looking for a property with a decent size room, clean bed and bathroom, hot and cold water, comfortable sleep and a courteous staff then this place fits all the check boxes.
The staff here is really helpful and were quite responsive to my requests with specific things I had asked for. Breakfast they serve is the same everyday with no variations to it except on the weekends it's usually Ala-carte. If you ask them they will serve specific items from the buffet freshly prepared if you think its not hot or fresh.
For dinner and lunch I would highly recommend you should take a walk to Cathedral Road which is about 1 km. There are lot of eateries right opposite Stella Maris College because the options around the Hotel are pretty limited. Most of the eateries around the area serve South Indian trip and are canteen type restaurants.
In all, if you are not too picky and brand conscious then pick this Hotel if you have a USA visa interview or you are on an official trip with your place of work being Teynampet.
Comfortable stay! Great location.

I stayed at this hotel for a night when I visited Chennai for my US visa interview. The hotel is located at a convenient location, and only about half kilometers from the US consulate, Chennai.
I was a bit worried with the negative reviews on this hotel, but surprisingly, I experience was rather pleasing. I do agree about the smell in the hotel which is due to the lack of ventilation, but it goes away when we turn the AC on.
The room was quite big, and had a king size bed. The room also had a mini-fridge, cup-boards & locker. The bath room was also of decent size. TV however was a CRT model, but had subscription of several english channels.
Internet speed is good, and there wassn't any connection problems.
The best thing about this hotel is 24 hour checkin-checkout timings i.e. If I checkin for a day at 7:00 PM IST on day 1, I can stay upto 7:00 PM IST till the next day. Usually hotels have 12:00 PM to 11:AM checkin-checkout timings, but thankfully Sona's Inn did not.
Complimentary breakfast was very average, and there is room for improvement. I did not try the hotel restaurant.
Need lots lots & lots of improvement!!!

The location is good as its on main road, BUT It needs lot improvements
1- Wifi was not working as its very important for business people
2- Food was not as good as expected
3- Bathroom was clean but wash basin was choking up. Not repaired also after informed to staff.
4- Sleep quality is not good at all
5- Lights were not working properly
6- Rooms are specious but furniture is very old.
Though, staff is very polite & good but the not recommended to stay here.
Sona's Inn, Chennai
on Jan 23, 2016
Sona's Inn in one of hotels near by the US consulate in Chennai and that is the USP of this hotel. I had gone through some reviews of this hotel before my arrival there and most of them were negative from reasons ranging from cleanliness issues to trouble with the facilities offered so I went there with great apprehensions. I will list out the good things first.
a. Location is right at the heart of the city with easy access to Taxi/Auto
b. If you are going to US consulate , then this place is a 10 minute walk from the consulate and easily accessible
c. Complimentary WiFi (contrary to some comments I read, WiFi access is available in rooms and is quite fast)
d. Helpful and pleasant staff who are eager to help you
e. Easy and hassle free check in and out
f. Sticks to the budget
a. The rooms have a strong smell of pesticide which may put off some people
b. Complementary breakfast is really bad and I would suggest that you look out for some other option
So keeping these points in mind I would say that for the not too picky travelers, Sona's is a fair choice if you need a place within budget in Teynampet, Chennai.
