Avoid if you can

Three stars only for the welcoming and friendly staff !
We visited on 11-12 Jan 2020 and weren't quite thrilled by the resort for these reasons:
1. The 250 meter steep stretch is quite longer as opposed to claims. The hotel does not have a proper parking and cars are parked on roadside.
2. The rooms are spacious but badly need maintenance. We hired the so- called good rooms of Scottish villa. One of the beds was high to the point of being extremely uncomfortable. The other made quirky sounds.
3. There were no doormats even when there was snow and rain outside. Upon our request, a towel was placed at entrance to avoid making the room wet and dirty.
4. The stuffed paranthas included in complimentary breakfast had no stuffing !!! Food served in rooms on order was ok though.
It seems hotel has acted on earlier complaints of geyser functioning, but then newer problems have cropped up. We were not impressed by the reception area either.
To sum up, the resort is not even half as beautiful as it looks in pictures, and location itself is a disadvantage.

This is one of the best places in Shimla and one of the most iconic of properties. You enter the premise and you will get the reflection of British Era. This is not a place for everyone. You need to feel it.
It is not as you see in photos

The place is firstly ill maintained. There is no upkeep of the beautiful cottages and things are either gathering rust or have already gone into shambles. The resort is actually not what it looks in the photos. The lawn is gone as they are constructing a new building there. The road that leads to this place is also very stiff, not advisable for old people, and it’s very dirty with garbage lying all around. However, the hotel staff is very courteous.
Stay with history

The hotel is very easy to locate as it’s just -about 200 meters from Vidhan Sabha which is from where you start your walk towards Mall Road. An additional 200 meter downhill and you’re at the hotel. The staff at the hotel are very helpful and courteous. Apart from assistance to carry luggage, they also offered a pick and drop to and from Vidhan Sabha when we wanted to go to Mall Road.
We were 10 of us and stayed at the Scottish Villa that has about 5-6 rooms and can easily accommodate upto 15 people. The food at the hotel is limited in variety but quite tasty. It’s on spicy and hotter side but that’s required to survive the cold. Room heaters are available at a charge, but extra blankets are made available without charge.
The bathrooms have fittings that date back to the British era, furniture and decor seem apt as well though they’re not as old.
