We came to the Royal Star after a relaxing week on Mandrem Beach. Prices were inflated as we were staying over New Year's Eve. That does not excuse the lack of a single housekeeping over 7 days. We had to ask for additional toilet paper and soap a few times and we noticed another couple having to bring out their indoor trash to be emptied. I learned, early on, to place our trash in the porch bin to be emptied.
(I gave it a score if two because I save ones for hygienically intolerable rooms.)
That said, location is closer to the beach than most other hotels, security at night is good, and the porch affords a built-in community for good or bad.
Other issues: Electricity was turned off a few times, which meant manual flushing of toilets and no hot water for showers. Also, the room was very dark, even with all lights on. Worst of all were the beds, with thin mattresses and thin blankets. We had to purchase a heavy hemp blanket for comfort. ... More

Khemu, Jagdesh, Umesh and Manu made us feel very comfortable. The place a serene garden is well maintained. Everyone was very helpful, we rented mopeds and got a ride to the airport. Service was excellent and its close to the beach. Very quiet location with a little lounge area to hang out. We loved having the cute boys serve us delicious coffee every morning. A special place!
