A comfortable stay which gives you jungle experience
on Dec 6, 2017
River Rock homestay is one of a kind and offers quite different kind of experience in Munnar. We stayed here for just a night but the experience we had was unforgettable.
It is located in the remote village around 15-18kms away from the Munnar city center. This place is isolated in between coffee and spice plantations. Though a main road passes infront of the property it feels peaceful during the night. Please be cautious while searching for this property as it has a small board on the gate and you can easily miss out this place if you are moving too fast. You can relay on Google Maps.
Rooms: Rooms are very spacious and well maintained. The wood roofing and the architecture is really nice. Some of the rooms opens up it's balcony to the beautiful view of river and the mountain ranges in the background. It's a great view indeed. Bathrooms are standard and equipped with individual electric geysers. And rooms have flat screen televisions. Please don't expect air condition as the weather will be always cool.
Generally they offer complimentary breakfast which is served in the dining hall with a great view of river. But if you want to have dinner and lunch, it's better to inform them prior to your visit. Or else if you want to explore the local cuisine, the owner of the property will be happy to take you to a small restaurant nearby which serves authentic Kerala dishes (both veg & non veg). But my suggestion is to have lunch & dinner outside if you are not used to Kerala cusinie. Also I suggest you to stock up water bottles for the night as there is no shops near by.
Service: The property is managed by its owner itself and he is very down to earth person. He will assist you in every aspect including arranging cabs and Tourism info. You can count on him at any time.
At night the sound of insects and flowing river will surely pamper you and put you to sleep in cozy feeling. But sometimes rats which might have made their dwelling on the roof will make some noise. If you are use to jungle life you'll neglect it or else can get scared. Other than this, I didn't see any flaw in this property.
Just keep your doors shut in the night to keep insects outside.
Final Verdict: It's the best Homestay you can get in Munnar considering the price point.

River Rock is one of the finest home-stays I ever stayed, its wooden panel docketed room to backside river views and chilling climate and homey made local food made our stay such a nice one, our host and owner Varghese was so nice and helpful, in our next trip to Munnar we differently stay in this homestay only and we highly recommend this

the location of the hotel is so intriguing that it is difficult to reach the place with best of logistics.once you reach the place you are welcomed by a sweet couple who are the owners and caretakers of this homestay. we were given a large room with glass windows with a 360 view of the place. the sound of music by the rivulet flowing down under was inviting and soothing to the ears. though we stayed there for only a night . the experience was memorable.the room was neat and tidy. it was very cold and we were provided with quilts .
next day we were served with local delicacies for breakfast: puttu and bananas
the breakfast was not good enough to fill us
you may stay in this homestay if are a adventurous and you want the sound of the river.
i cannot comment about the breakfast.
Natural beauty and kind hospitality

We spent three nights at River Rock and feel so lucky that we could experience this beautiful place. Munnar can be quite busy so it felt wonderful to return to our rooms overlooking the river, rocks, and forest, with nothing but the sound of rushing water. The rooms are clean and have a lot of privacy, and balconies overlooking the river. Mr. Varghese is a thoughtful host and was especially sweet with our young kids. We loved the local breakfasts and his wife also cooked us delicious home style meals every night. (A new dining room overlooking the river was just being completed while we were there.) River Rock is great value for money and a lovely way to experience Munnar.

River Rock is just awesome property to stay, just a bit far away from the noise of crowd at Munnar. Though at a bit distance from Munnar town, but awesome clean spacious rooms with fully covered with glass and hospitality of the owner will certainly make your stay special. The cottages are surrounded with plenty of colorful flowers and many plants. A short trail will take you to the banks of the river. Those who want a peaceful and homely accommodation , this is the perfect place to stay. our 2 days of stay here really make us feeling a homely ambiance here at River Rock.
