    This guest house has been run by the same family for 35 years and in some respects is showing its age. Owner Prabu was friendly and has excellent English. Do not stay here unless you can cope with climbing about 70 stairs. Some of these are not at standard height. My room had two singles pushed together. Linen and pillows were good, although it lacked a top sheet. With the temperature down to eight degrees Celsius overnight, the lack of heating may be of concern to guests from warmer climates such as many Indians. The room had a chest of drawers and a luggage shelf plus two small bedside tables. There was no chair to sit on. Power points were well placed bedside. Lighting was basic with one globe and a window fluro tube in the bedroom. I was asked whether I preferred an evening or morning shower. At 0700 hours there was no hot water. I had to wait until 0755 before reception answered and was informed the hot water would be available in half an hour. It took about 20 minutes. Regulating the shower to avoid either scalding hot or very cold water was challenging. At Rs.1360 for the tariff, one does not expect the Ritz but surely 24 hour hot water ought be available. The handbasin was cold water only. The room easily fogged with the shower on. The toilet was obviously quite modern. Soap, but not shampoo, was provided. The room had a view of dirty Ooty Lake. Perhaps some of its colour may be from tannins of Australian Eucalypt. - gum - trees widely, and unwisely as tgey are not oart if local ecology - planted, but I will not be drinking the lake water. The cafe did not seem to be open at 0855 hours. With no table and chair in the room, I did not want to eat on the bed. WiFi was largely excellent. It was an easy 350 metre walk to the railway station for highly recommended trains to Coonoor, but unfortunately the steam-operated rack railway 1 in 12 gradient down to Mett. Was closed for 10 days due to a landslide and then heavy follow up rains. Thus was most disappointing. There was no night traffic noise and thankfully no smoke smells. The upper level has a small garden. I could not switch on the small TCL flatscreen TV in the morning but this may have been my mistake.... More

    Unapologetic when they ruined half our clothes in the wash - told us it was our fault!

    Rooms have serious damp issue and are smelly due to this. Staff treated us awfully, we paid for washing to be done and all of our whites were ruined. They chucked everything in one wash and a lot of our clothes were beyond repair. Over 10 items completely ruined. We had to go to them to tell them our clothes were ruined, they didn’t own up to the mistake or apologise but told us it was our fault as we should of separated the washing first - despite the fact we were paying 15-30 rupees PER item, not for one load. They offered no compensation for the ruined clothes but maintained it was our fault for not separating ourselves or telling them whites should be washed separately (isn’t this the first rule of laundry?!) The laundry was returned in a bucket, unfolded, just seems like a lazy and rude service with no care for you or your belongings. Stay here if you like, it’s budget friendly, but if something goes wrong expect no sympathy, apology or help, just rudeness. Whatever you do, don’t let them touch your laundry unless you have money for a new wardrobe!... More

    Fab is not Fabulous in this Reflections!!

    The location is fairly good with overview to a part of lake. Quite scenic. Also being close to Boat House - a spot of attraction makes it interesting to opt to stay here. Yet the path leading to the rooms is quite weird and at times you feel unsafe to clamber up! The rooms are poorly lit and very eerie looking! With such cool weather, the hot water availability for wash and bath is limited to the timings set by the hotelier!! Though the breakfast is free, the variety is limited only one item what is decided by the cook or the hotelier on a day and only three items are made available in rotation. The quality of food is just passable. The worst aspect is availability of the staff to provide service. Quite curt in response, rude and most of the times not available! No internal phone and need to contact the owner/manager on the phone and the signal being poor will leave you unable to contact!! Breakfast will be available only after 8,30 am and dinner only before 8.30pm!!! You feel that you are staying at the mercy of the hotelier!! The only saving grace was the soft spokenness and at times "going beyond to serve the customer" approach of the manager/owner. Maybe I will never again here!!     They cancelled by booking in last week of my travel. I booked the hotel 1 month before. In the last moment I had to search for another hotel. Beware of this hotel. They don't have any policy. I am really disappointed of this behavior.... More

  11. In case of increase in tariff during the URS period in Ajmer or Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, the customer is liable to pay the difference if the Check-in date falls during those periods.
