Pleasant accommodation in a shabby town
on Nov 10, 2017
There are not a lot of choices in Ooty at the reasonable price level. This is why I have given this guest house 5 star excellence - not because it can match the high end accommodation, but because if you are looking for reasonably priced accommodation it is hard to beat Reflections Guest House.
The rooms up the back are the best. True, you do have to climb some steps to reach this, but there are railings for most of the way outside, and if you need railings all the way, you can come up through the main building for the first section. But being able to sit on the little garden terrace overlooking the lake is a real pleasure.
The rooms are small, but we found them adequate for two of us. There is hot water every morning from 7:30 to 8:30, which is perfect, but the water remains hot after that for some time. We found the room clean, the sheets clean, and the bathroom clean. Those claiming the rooms are dirty surely haven't travelled much in India - we have, and these rooms are certainly of the better quality compared to most at this price. We had no complaints about the rooms, sleep quality or facilities. The only suggestion I could make, would be to change the mattresses more often, as foam mattresses eventually lose their resilience.
The staff were always helpful and friendly. Prabu was a source of all kinds of info and help. Desiree and her mother Rachel, were always friendly and helpful, and Desiree made delicious biscuits and cakes.
Food: we ate breakfast at the guest house every morning, and it was excellent. Chai and coffee, as well as snacks, were available throughout the day. We ate dinner there also, and it was fine, although not as good as restaurant fare. There are restaurants right outside the guest house - on both sides. There are three actually, right there next door. One, the City Palace, was probably the best if you were looking for standard Indian food.
If you are after finer dining, then an Rs 80 rickshaw trip up to Charring Cross brings you to Junior Kuppanna and A2B restaurants, which are both excellent eateries.
Ooty is a shadow of its former self, but if you have decided to seek out some cooler hill weather, then staying at Reflections does offer a pleasant respite from the crowded, cramped and busy streets of Ooty. It was such a pleasure to retreat to Reflections after battling the traffic and terrible pot-holed roads and side walks while struggling to visit what few charms Ooty still offers.
Hills weather is always unpredictable, but sitting on the garden terrace in clement weather, looking out over the water and trees of Ooty Lake, was certainly a real pleasure.
Auto rickshaws are always passing the guest house, as they come from the boat house down the road a little, so there is no wait to catch one of those. There is a taxi stand just a few minutes up the road at the roundabout, the bus station is around to the right, and the train station around to the left from the Rajiv Gandhi roundabout - all very close. Walking to Charring Cross is a reasonable distance for a good walk - best to take the Main Bazaar Road which is one street up and parallel to Commercial Road - more interesting, and comes out onto Commercial Road just where the walk-able sidewalks begin.
Room was not nice as expected

Don judge by the photos uploaded.. Room was full of dust. It was comfort at all.
Walls in the room found to be stained. Amenities provided also seemed dirty.
Better avoid this place and find a better place for comfortable stay.
Reflections Guest House, Ooty
on Jul 15, 2017
As the name suggests, it is indeed a place for reflection! Overlooking the Ooty Lake, the guesthouse is a peaceful stay away from the buzzing town center. The lake’s main entrance is only a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
But the downside is there is no restaurants or eateries near the hotel. Hence, we had to order breakfast and dinner at the hotel and that increased the cost of our stay. They charged Rs 90 for a plate of Maggie at dinner. 😊
It is only 5 mins (Rs 50-60) by auto from the Ooty Bust Stand. But if you need to go the bus stand/Nilgiri Railway station you need to walk down nearly 20 minutes to reach the town center as there is no auto or taxi stands near the hotel.
The owner, Prabhu, is a gentleman. He is always there for you when you need him. I chose Reflections Guest House because of its scenic location and quiet surrounding. The rooms are built in three different levels along the slopes of the hill, offering an uninterrupted view of the lake right in front of it. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and you'll get hot water in the morning.
However, if you are traveling with elderly people, choose carefully, as you have to climb stairs every time you get in and out. There is no lift.
If you are looking for a peaceful weekend retreat and don’t mind spending some extra bucks for food and transport, Ooty Reflections Guest House is the place to stay.

Excellent location overlooking the boat house lake. Good rooms with beautiful view. Rooms are a bit small but cosy. Staff is very helpful especially Thomson the room boy. The cook makes excellent food and we can order breakfast a la carte
Never Recommend - Pathetic Customer service and shady Rooms
on May 13, 2017
We had planned a stay for 3 days and was terribly ruined because of the stay here, I will never recommend this to anyone looking for comfortable stay. Rooms are smaller than match boxes , very old and non-maintained furniture plus not clean sheets. This aggravates me when the rooms are not neat and sheets are full of patches as if some one had a feast on it a moment back. Very very lethargic and laid back customer service attitude. Hot water not available in spite of a ceremonial Geyser displayed in Bathing Room. And Yes how can i forget the drinking water folklore that goes around this guest house. The drinking water was first of all not available and then when you avail it somehow , you might as well drink from Bathing Room . And Yes be ready to wait for a good 2 hours for a dirty jug of drinking water. That's the experience i had.
NOT Recommended at all for long stay . One day you can survive this hell though.
Refrain if you can from giving business to such below average shady places . This will never improve i am sure in spite of complaints and one such bad review because i had tried my fair share of chances.
