Standard college guest house but on a lakeside with nice views
on Feb 26, 2017
Most Indian universities have guest houses. This one is par for the course. Spacious rooms with comfortable, if a bit dilapidated, fittings. Basic Indian food in the cafetaria (remember to ask for bottled water). The guest house straddles Lake Powai. Even though it is in a major city, with tall buildings all around, it is possible to walk along the lake path and feel that you are in the countryside somewhere. The path is also good for jogging, all the way up to the Kali temple on the promontory (about 1.5 km away) and back.
Lunch with colleagues

I regularly have business lunches at the IITB guest house. The food is good and the location on the Powai lake is scenic. The service of the staff and the overall cleanliness of the guest house and dining area is excellent. I have also stayed at the guest house and while not five star, is very good.
Amazing Hostel at IIT

Lake side is the must visit place if you are staying in the hostel at IIT Bombay. Powai is one of the less crowded area of Mumbai few Kms from airport. Take a walk in the rich forest cover within the campus especially in Monsoon

Being an alumnus from the institute my review for the campus ought to be biased. The location of campus midst the crowded Powai is not the best but the moment one enters the campus its a totally new world with temperature atleast 5 degrees cooler. There are trees on both sides of the roads and students walking around. The guest house faces the powai lake and one can easily spend hours looking at the sunset and the white birds over the lake.
Good view, strict meal timings

Overall service is a bit slow but the food at mealtimes is good (you have to inform them in advance) and the rooms are clean and basic. The view of Powai lake is gorgeous. There is no WiFi but there are computers for public use in the lounge. You have to know someone at IIT to book this property.
