Very nice lodge
on Nov 1, 2019
My wife and I stayed here for only one night, which was too short a visit. We really hope to come back. The gardens are beautiful, as is the view and the vicinity. It is a bit off the main road, so is very quiet. Birdwatching is excellent in the area, and in the gardens. We loved our room, bed was very comfortable. We had dinner and two breakfasts there. The food was fabulous. Service was attentive, friendly and good.
Beautiful Place to Stay

The staff was extremely accommodating, anything that I needed was quickly delivered. The food was fantastic with plenty of options. I would recommend staying at Olive Brook and hope to return soon.
I had a driver which made getting to and from Olive Brook very easy.
Birds, beauty and tranquility
on Jun 4, 2019
Summer family holiday in Munnar. I love birds and look out for lifers even in off season. Our internet trawls led us to this gem. We noticed it was popular with both local and international travellers and wasn’t exorbitant. Olive Brook offers cottages on a hillside in a Cardamom plantation set in a beautiful garden.
Pros: 1. Location: As soon as you turn the corner on the hillside, the ambience dramatically changes from the ubiquitous tea plantations of Munnar to a wooded hillside. It is far enough from the dust and noise of the town for tranquility but close enough to make sorties as required. It is 5 km from the town and 2 km from tje highway turn off a little past the Pothamedu view point and Village.
2. Accommodation: Olive Brook offers cottages. The Eden cottages are on two levels and are the most recent additions and best. The top level is wooden, so choose that if that’s what you like. Adam near the reception is good. Choose Eve only if you want seclusion and are a couple at most. The space is limited.
3. Birds: Except for a single bird bath there is no attempt to interfere with the local avians. But they abound in the garden and the surrounds. Wake up to delectable song of the Malabar whistling thrush. Red whiskered bulbuls, Oriental white eyes and Magpie Robins monopolise the garden. Othe sightings from the balcony included the White cheeked and Malabar barbet, Nilgiri flowerpecker, Nilgiri, Grey headed Canary and Asian brown flycatchers, couple of eagles, Shikra, brown cheeked fulvetta and Yellow browed bulbul. Hike up the plantation to the top of the hill beyond Deshadan to see the Nilgiri pipit and if you’re very lucky the grass bird. The malabar giant squirrel can be found foraging in the trees of the cardamom plantations (Pics of garden sightings below)
4. Staff: Very polite and helpful
5. Value for money - IMO much better than some of the upscale places
They can arrange for trips according to your interests. Talk to them.
Cons: Don’t go if you’re idea of Munnar is a vast expanse of tea plantations from your window. Being a specialty accommodation, the menu while very good is limited. Also if the breakfast is not included in your tariff, you might find it expensive. My suggestion is to plan day trips and meals such that you have a good mix of in house meals and others. Eden cottage will not be enough for more than two guests. So be careful when you book.
Suggestions: Having a vehicle will help you get around during the day. Its a bit out of town. A little walk to Pothamedu will get you cheap local transport. There are other resorts nearby, so a short walk can help to mix up the menu.

Unbelievably good service and great food. The perfect spot for exploring Munnar without being in the thick of the town. Access to lovely walks from the hotel. Definitely a less modern hotel but fits in with its surroundings.
