Lotus Beach Resort stay
on Jan 15, 2020
The Resort is inside the mostly gated Lotus Beach Hermitage Residency compound. (See the photo of the dated map of the Residency from a wall near the entryway.). Prior assurances from the Resort that there were poolside umbrellas and an airport transfer (flight & time confirmed in advance) fell through totally. The only shade at the pool was from ten scattered palms and the airport transfer had to be made (after a call to the Resort verifying nobody was coming) by arranging a taxi ourselves for Rs 1300. When booking, we had also requested a poolside suite. Only after arrival we learned there are no poolside suites (or rooms) since the pool is located outside the Resort in the Residency area (see map photo). We also learned after checkin that a hairdryer (indicated as an in-room feature on the booking platform) needed to be shared with other guests. BTW, there were also no Bathrobe and Bath Slippers (LOL!) as promised on the Resort’s website.
The pool is a shallow (~1m to ~1.5m) figure-eight shape that’s about 25m long with a small kiddie pool adjoined in the middle. Pool loungers (~10) are older, sturdy, adjustable metal ones that have comfortable padding. There are also some plastic armchairs poolside. A guard is suppose to register pool users and enforce pool rules although users periodically don’t comply with either registration requests or posted rules. The pool’s plumbing and cleanliness are not bad considering the frequent and sometimes rowdy usage. Guests at the Resort as well as those at the Residency were generally an interesting mix of nationalities. From the signage and the sound of things, Hindi, Russian, and variations of English were the commonest languages. Breakfast can consist of healthy selections - fresh fruit and veggies, eggs to order, hot veggie dishes, sambhar, porridge, along with sweeter, starchy offerings. Suites are spacious with sturdy, older, well worn furnishings and fixtures, and operable aircon, fans, and a good cable tv. Housekeeping is consciously well done. WiFi is only available in the reception area. Staff are helpful and courteous to arrived guests. Based on observations, a number of Residency units were apparently available for short-term rental. There’s a newer looking resort (Beira Mar Beach Resort) across the road and they have poolside umbrellas and rack rates roughly 3 times higher than at Lotus Beach Resort.
Both resorts are about 500m from the Benaulim Beach parking area along the surfaced roads although dirt and sand paths are shorter ways to the beach and to beach-front shacks.
Johncy’s restaurant at Benaulim Beach (photo of busy Sunday parking area with Johncy’s at far left attached) had good lunchtime features: good turnover of clients, variety of available menu items, clean facilities & operations, moderate prices, plus great front-row views of beach activities including the takeoffs and landings of a 3-minute-long parasailing ride concession (Rs 1000 - see photo).
Our final days at the Resort were marred by the arrival next door of a couple of heavy, in-their-room, tobacco smokers, who despite a posted Rs 5000 fine (see photo) and written and oral messages to Resort management, continued to make our suite and closeted clothes reek with very strong tobacco odors.
Overall the Resort was a bit like Goa: much was notable with some commendable and some off putting.

This place does not look like how it does on line
We couldn’t use pool it was green
No sunloungers by pool
Dogs bark and howl all night
Lots of motor bikes in and out
It is close to beach and gated but it’s not a good complex
