Having thought the hotel was in Bari, it came as a big surprise that I had actually booked a hotel in Conversano. We arrived feeling irritable and tired after a loong day of travel, so arriving at this hotel was a wonderful surprise. Warm welcome, beautiful bedroom. Good facilities. Ideally located. Wonderful breakfast and the dining room on the upper floors with lovely views. Helpful staff organising us a taxi on a Sunday as buses don't run.
Right opposite the cathedral. Clean & pleasant.

The room was lovely, warm, clean, with exposed stonework and gentle lighting the jacuzzi bath was a nice bonus. There were no views from our room the window looked out onto an alleyway but that wasn't a problem for us. We chose the hotel because of its central location. Its very easy to walk all round the town from here, in fact the cathedral is opposite. Its tricky to get to by car, you have to drive in though a pedestrian only part of the town and there is no parking near the hotel. We had to unload the cases then drive back out and park on a street or in the petrol station!
One thing no one mentioned about Puglia is that almost everything shuts between 1 and 4. Churches, museums, shops etc which leaves a bit of a hole in the day.
We only ate in the hotel one evening and it was very odd as there were only 2 other tables occupied and the atmosphere was very awkward. The food was ok but nothing to write home about. The breakfast was the same just a scattering of people. Food was bland buffet style. Nothing was bad but then nothing was really that good either.
I found the whole place a bit impersonal.
We had booked the exclusive spa morning as it was our wedding anniversary but I wouldn't bother again. The massage was nice, so if I would say just get that rather than the whole `spa experience' which really just equated to sitting in a bigger jacuzzi.
The alleyway was a bit noisy in the evening when it seemed to be taken over by a group of Italian teenagers, and the church bells begin very early in the morning. Which is to be expected in a town I suppose so be aware of that.
On the whole a pleasant place to stay if you are exploring Conservano, just fair warning about the parking issue and the foods not great. We highly recommend Pasha restaurant across the main road if you want an amazing treat.(Not to be confused with the Pasha Bistro). The baroque church in the convent is spectacular, but the castle and Man Ray exhibition were small and overpriced.
Good centre for exploring Puglia

Our agent had recommended this hotel as it is ideally located for exploring Puglia and its interesting towns. The hotel is located within the castle walls, hence access is difficult and although one can enter the esplanade area to drop off bags car parking is around 1 km away. The hotel does provide a lift to either drop off or collect ones car but this is not always convenient nor timely. Our room was large with a small en suite and linens and toiletries were average. The rooms are dotted around the reception area as they comprise part of the castle itself. It you have mobility problems then do not stay at this hotel as there are lots of steps. Staff are charming and eager to please. Breakfast buffet/restaurant on the roof terrace where we were well looked after by Guiseppe for our welcome dinner which was good and gave us a flavour of the region. The hotel is very handy for lots of other good restaurants - all within walking distance. We stayed for 8 days and were looked after well. A downside? There is not really a comfortable lounge area where one could read and relax.
Good but you need this info before you book!

Stayed here for 3 nights and all in all it was a very pleasant stay. It would have been even better if the hotel had sent me a little email pre-arrival with the following tips:
1. The hotel is in the historical centre of the town and this is a pedestrian only area. You can drive your car up to the hotel to off load your luggage but be sure to fill the form in which gives you exemption from prosecution for driving in the area.
2. The hotel has no parking and most areas on the outskirts of the town are paid parking only. The exceptions are the ENI petrol stations ( I know it seems weird parking in a petrol station) and one road that runs to the side of that petrol station.
That said, once we had the hang of this it was all good and the car was safe.
Please give your clients more information pre arrival.
Beautiful Inn in the quiet historical section of Conversano
on Aug 4, 2017
We spent 3 nights in the Corte Altavilla. This is a beautiful property that has been totally restored. We had a family room that consisted for two bedrooms with double beds, a bathroom and a small foyer. The room was spacious and clean. We loved this place as it was in the old section of Conversano just steps away from the church, main piazza and fortress. This is a very quite town during the day but comes to life at 8:00 p.m as everyone goes on their stroll or out for dinner. Cars are not allowed but we did not find that to be an issue as access is allowed to drop off or pick up your luggage. Free parking is available in a gas station a 5-10 minute walk away or free on the streets.
