WARNING - I've been the victim of a scam in this hostel.
on Jan 18, 2020
I paid the full amount in cash the day after I arrived at the hostel. The receptionist told me that I would receive the receipt by email. Knowing that this is my first booking on booking.com I accepted. As agreed I received an email from Jugaad Hostel confirming my payment but what was my surprise when I found out a few days later that I was charged the same amount the same day on my credit card by Booking. The receipt I received was actually the receipt for the card payment.
On my return to France I contact the customer service of booking.com and I send them the supporting documents, they contact the hostel, here is their answer:
Jugaad Hostel: "Your credit card was not working at the time of your check-in that you did not have enough cash so you asked them to pay the next day. Since the hostel didn't hear from you, they tried to charge your credit card again."
1: How can my credit card not work when they make a payment without my authorization 24 hours later?
2: I left the hostel 2 days after paying in cash. If there was a problem, why didn't they come and talk to me about it?
I know that the hostel owner won't accept criticism, it could be that he says that comment is spam and that I never stayed in this hostel. I can assure you of my good fortune by bringing all the necessary pieces.
As far as the hostel is concerned, it's correct.
- The terrace is pleasant
- The place is secure.
- No heating in my room (air conditioning unplugged or broken?)
- The mattresses are not very thick (as usual in hostels in India).
- It's largely oversized, the pictures don't really represent life there. (See the photo booking.com)
I do not hope to be reimbursed, but I will actively participate on the Internet to ensure that this type of scam is denounced.
A disappointed customer
Quite a Letdown

Jugaad is a decent play to stay for your Delhi experience. It's outside of the hustle and bustle of the city center(10-15 min). However, I was let down because my experience did not match the reviews and photos. There seemed to be no social atmosphere at the place and it wasn't as nice as the photos portrayed. I personally cannot believe that Jugaad is in the top 3 in the Delhi hostel scene. I stayed in a private room for 4 nights and for the price I paid(was definitely expensive for Delhi), it just wasn't nice. Although the food is decent, it is quite expensive. I would not stay here again and would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a social atmosphere.

When I am back in Delhi - I will definitely be staying at Jugaad again. The staff are amazing. Available 24/7, friendly and incredibly helpful. They helped me book train tickets, sorted me out with an India SIM card in just 15 minutes, gave great advice about how to avoid potential scams and answered any questions I had about how to get to places. The hostel is cute with a pretty rooftop. I stayed in the twin private room which was clean and comfortable. The hostel walking tour was great - our guide even came back in the evening to take us to the local jazz bar. If you are a female travelling alone for the first time in Delhi and are arriving late at night, I highly recommend using the hostel’s pick up service. Firstly, you avoid the hassle of haggling at the airport. Secondly, the entrance to the hostel is in a poorly lit alley. It’s somewhat intimidating at first and I wouldn’t have found it easily on my own.
Safe-house in Delhi

In Jugaat-hostel you've found the perfect combination of a vibrant place with a good atmosphere, clean rooms and a nice rooftop terrace in a relatively quiet part of Delhi (that is to say: there are plenty of restaurants, streetfood and cafe's, but you can easily access one of the parks nearby). However, the best part of Jugaat is it's staff. Salman (and his brother) are some of the friendliest and knowledgeable people that we've met in India. If you have the time, make sure to sit down with them and get to know them! ;-)
Love the place!

Superb rooms, terrace, vibe, and people!
No matter how many times you stay here, you'd always come back. Whether you are just arriving in the city or leaving it, they cater to every requirement, even sightseeing, shopping and bar hopping. It has one of the best common rooms. And all that at a price that makes you smile.
