Am so glad I stayed here !!

This place was recommended by my bro in law who had stayed here before. Glad that I booked it. Brilliant 2BHK cottage with a lawn outside with a swing and a breakfast table. Nice parking just outside. Excellent views of the surrounding pine trees and mountains. Nice cosy rooms with heaters. Clean bathrooms. kitchen and separate dining area. Everything served in the rooms ( the place has no restaurant as it could be quite a walk from the cottages on some steep slopes). Food was okay but we mostly ate out. Staff is very courteous and helpful. Mr Mahendra really went all out to make our stay comfortable. He even helped me with the permit for my Rohtang visit. They even arrange for a campfire outside your cottage (charges Rs 500/-). All in all an excellent value for money. I had one strange experience while booking though. I could not find the site for online booking. So I called up HPTDC office about a month in advance. The lady on the phone told me that the resort was completely booked for the dates which I wanted. She told me she could mail me details of few other places outside. Fortunately I found the site and to my surprise there were actually 9 cottages vacant. Stay here folks if you can. Only drawback is it is about 2-3 kms from mall road. Easier if one has own vehicle for commute.

As always, I am a big fan of the spacious and decently maintained HPTDC properties. They offer one of the best views along with reasonable prices. The staff is helpful and the food is good.. almost like home. The huts are well maintained - have 2 bedrooms with bath attached and a living room plus kitchen. Wall to wall carpeting. Another plus of this property is that it is near to the city, yet far from the maddening crowd. Very calm and quiet. One of the must consider hotels if you're planning to travel to Manali.
Best place to stay

The premium log huts, make you forget the rest of Manali crowd, traffic etc. The view of river, surrounding deodars , spacious complex is something difficult to get in new properties. Service is good. The huts had kitchenette attached, which was a bonus.
Charming with a view, but old cottage

We stayed in LogHut #2. It was very charming cottage (2 BHK). Water is centrally heated. Staff were very responsive and quick.
stuffed paranthas, boiled eggs, roti, Dal, subzi, cha, ginger honey tea. All decent reliable dishes.
The carpet, beds, bathroom and kitchen are very dated. But, it really didn't matter because the view outside made up for it all.
The bonfire, garden and swing were just adorable. And bettered the experience.
Improvement opportunities: One note is that the sheets didn't feel fresh and clean. Some had stains in it. Would recommend they actually throw those sheets and blankets out and purchase new ones.
Also, the HPTDC should invest in upgrading the bathroom facilities and updating the decor/furniture of the bedrooms and hall.

Stayed at the adjacent HPTDC Orchad huts and it was exquisite. Rooms were very large and ideal fit for two families since there are two bedrooms. The hospitality is outstanding and they really take good care of you. The place is serene and has good views of the moutains above and the Beas below.
Planning a trip to Manali in the winter in the next couple of years and would surely stay at the HPTDC huts.
