A good hotel to avoid the city...
on Jan 30, 2019
I stayed in Hotel Umaid Residency in November 2018 for 3 days on a business trip. The hotel is located in Kookas area which lies in the outskirts of Jaipur on Delhi-Jaipur highway.
Accessability – If you are driving to Jaipur from Delhi then you can avoid the city traffic of Jaipur as the hotel is roughly 40 minutes before the main city starts. While reaching Jaipur by train, bus or flight, you will need to travel back to the hotel. Especially, would not recommend this hotel if you are landing in Jaipur airport as the hotel is at the farthest end of the city and there are many good options available near the airport to fit every budget. Local/web based taxi services provide transport option, however it is not very cost effective and not many drivers are willing to go to such remote location. In my opinion, it is a good option to avoid the hustle bustle of the city and if you have your private vehicle.
Advice – The property is right at the back of Umaid Hotel which is on the main road, however you will need to move slightly ahead and take the first left to get to the property. Had a hard time doing that myself on the first day.
Places to visit – There are few good sightseeing locations near the property namely Nahargarh & Amber fort, Biodiversity Park and few temples in reasonable distance. For all tourist spots, one needs to travel to Jaipur city like Birla Mandir, Moti Doongri fort and temple, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar to name a few.
Rooms – Rooms are pretty clean, however the quantum of space can vary largely with the room that you have. I stayed in room 101 for a few hours before moving into 106. The room was nice and spacious and was painted in white with the shades of blue in the traditional Rajasthani style, giving the feel of the culture of the land. The room comes with a spacious bathroom well equipped with bath accessories and toiletries. The room also has a digital locker to keep your valuables that I have no comments on(as I did not use that at all) The mattress in the room 101 needs updating as the coil springs keep poking as you roll in the bed. The front office person was good enough to get a housekeeping staff come and check the mattress before shifting me to another room that was 106. The room was good but was very cramped even for a single occupant. The best part is that it is at the end of the isle so gets minimum noise from outside and late risers can sleep in peace. The rooms on the front façade of the hotel do not offer this luxury as they have a large window right next to the bed. The curtains are there but to my dismay they cannot stop the chatter of the road or the bright sunlight.
The room also came with a small desk & chair to use for office work or personal skype sessions.
Please note: The rooms have very little to no soundproofing as I could clearly hear the conversations of the people in the rooms next to mine. A good information to have during your stay.
Hotel premises – The hotel front side has a good size parking that you can use to park your car. It can easily accommodate 8-10 vehicles and is covered by the cctv camera (an advantage, for sure). The main entrance has a traditional Rajasthani culture theme with paintings and vases.
The entire premises carry that look & feel including the lobby, restaurant, corridors and other places. The place was kept neat and tidy by the staff. Good work.
Food – There are almost no good restaurants in walk-able distance from the hotel and with my share of doubts on how safe would it be to go around in the night, one may have to depend on the hotel menu. Indian food options were good, cannot comment on the other cuisines.
Breakfast options are adequate and are predominantly north Indian & South Indian apart from egg, toast and few others. The setting is self-service, still the staff was courteous enough to help me get the tea or juice served on the table.

Excellent hotel. Very clean rooms. Great amenities and 100% value for money. Friendly and humble staff- Hemanth Singh , Dilip Singh and Vinod specially were very courteous and helpful.
Nice spread of complimentary breakfast. Room service was very prompt. Wifi was the only service that was promised but wasn’t provided. Overall we had a great stay. I would definitely book the same hotel for my next visit.
