An old hotel struggling to keep with changing times. Very old lift, non-working taps in bathroom, no phone in room. Plus points are friendly staff, nearby market and Chennai Central station. A budget hotel.

They accepted booking over phone. Credit card was not accepted on arrival. If not paying in cash I was told that there is no room vacant. I had to pay in cash. Credit card/ debit card machine was not working. On website it is mentioned Wifi enabled buiding. On arrival I was told , due to rains wifi is not working.
Cable TV was not working.Subscription was not paid.
Room had a balcony. Do not expect hot running water when it is cloudy. They will provide it in a bucket if requested.
Near by there are food joints. But the area is not clean. Stay only if you have to catch up a train from central station and not much worried about facilities. The price charged is not proportionate to the facilities.

Forty years and counting

Dad brought us here because his godown was in the market nearby. I remember the present staff being boys whom he called 'tambi' or Tamil for little brother.
The lift is forty years old but everything around has changed. Over the years, brick and mortar building has completely been furnished with wood to the extent even walls are panelled and I barely see any gaps between two surfaces where any plaster could peel.
Not only is every room air-conditioned, their restaurant serves all guests at reasonable prices. If you forget to switch off the a/c, unlike hostels where I have lived no one is going to scold. To make me comfortable, they engaged a maid for cleaning my room. A man rings my doorbell every morning to ask if I need to get any laundry done and delivers it all washed and ironed the same evening. I need not worry whether it is a flight or train as the railway station is a stroll away and the cab is always on call.
Location is priceless. There are restaurants, ATM and medical stores all within walking distance. I picked up a pair of flip-flops from a place two blocks down. One word of caution, few hotels in the area will accept international travellers as the legal hassles of accommodating one far outweigh the income.
