Best location with a bright future

Went to Puri in November 2017 and stayed at Puri Sonar Bangla for 3 nights. Excellent location but à bit unclean surrounding. The hotel staff except a particular front desk staff,were very customer friendly, well mannered, warm and kind. Our rooms on the 3rd floor were all clean with partial sea view. The dinning room needs revamping with good pest control system and varied food choice. The lift's operation is not very good and especially in the late nights and hence a person like me with acute knee pain might face problems during emergencies as they stop lift operation after a certain time at night. The hotel needs to improve on the water quality which is absolutely unfit for use. A staff in his night shift was very very rude on lift operation which spoiled the holiday mood. But the best thing is, in spite of all the above facts, at the end of the holiday tenure, one cannot but help feel good having stayed on this peaceful property.
A pleasant stay at HSB Puri

The hotel is just 40-60 feet away from lighthouse down the road.The Location is really good(if you are willing to stay out of crowd). Sea is just 30 feet from the entrance of the hotel. The auto stand was in front of the hotel. The holiday homes are nearby so the location is not at all remote. Only problem is that, very less option to have food outside except Sholoana bangaliana. Now this Sholoana bangaliana restaurant has good service with good food at reasonable price. this restaurant is just beside Lighthouse. Another point is that no option for buying any thing(be it a shaving razor). For everything you have to come near to the holiday homes or have to take an auto and go to swargadwar. Except these the place is awesome.
Note : I donno the reason, when we were there the running water was not at all usable. It seemed that it was the drain water got mixed with the supply line. it was same for almost all the front row hotels.
Sonar Bangla Lived Upto its Repution of a 3 Star Hotel

After reading some reviews, we had apprehension about the hotel. But our apprehension evaporated as soon as we were courteously received by front desk officials.
We were taken to well made out rooms. We were 2 couples, staying in Room nos. 302 and 303, both seafacing. Glory of Bay of Bengal can be seen throughout the day sitting at balconies.
Coming to location of Sonar Bangla Hotel. Location cannot be better than this. We are nature lovers so we were happy to be far from maddening crowd of Swargadwar or Chakraatirtha Road.
Rooms are well kept. Every machine starting from AC to fridge to TV, geyser were working perfectly. Bathroom was well suplied with toiletries.
Tea/coffee maker was good and tea etc were supplied regularly.
Good sumptuous breakfast is rather monotonous and varities could be brought by adding cutlets, idli, dosa etc.
Restaurant is clean and well kept but items mentioned id menu are many a times unavailable.
Housekeeping staf are efficient. So are room service boys. They are ready to attend you 24×7 with smiling face.
Bappa and Amit at front desk are efficient and present smiling face to help clients.
Overall, Sonar Bangla is a classy hotel. I had stayed at many 4/5 star hotels in India. Without comparing, I can say Sonar Bangla is worth trying once while in Puri.

The Hotel is very Nice nd very well maintained other common areas.The room however need some improvement as the wooden item so sign of wear nd tear,nd the bathroom,bed pillow also need to be upgraded to give the room an elegant feel.Nd the most important part of food,Food was pocket friendly nd very well made nd delicious !!The last thing my room i mean where i live Room 408..All out oil R expired 02/17...

Disaster!!! From the time we checked in the lift was not working.Even after several promises from the hotel,the elevator was not operational for 2 days.With great difficulty I took my mother up the stairs to the room while Check in.For 2 days my mom was stuck in the room,as if it was a jail. But the most disturbing fact was the rude attitude of a Senior Front Desk named Bappa.His guy was an ultimate unprofessional,rude and his boby language was like a street side rowdy.Bappa instead of showing empathy,tried to force us to accept that even after paying,we should not ask or demand our entitlements.He was shouting back on me when I demanded the services for which I paid good amount of money and believe me Sonar Bangla doesn't come cheap!!!Bappa is a disgrace for Sonar bangla.The hotel need renovation on an emergency basis,many things were not up to the mark.Our TV was not working for the 1st day,as Bappa told it's not working due to Bad weather,we believed but to our surprise we asked the Housekeeping staff the next day and he told TV was working in all rooms without any disturbance,he by himself changed the set top box and Walla!!! TV was working.HK and F&B staffs were super polite and service oriented but it seems Bappa was a perfect lair,he just lied to us that the TV was not working to take a revenge as i compliant it seems,he never asked Anyone to attend the TV complaint and when I confronted him why he did not sent anyone to attend the complaint,he again lied that only after his instruction the HK staff went to rectify the TV,whereas in fact the HK staff came to our room to deliver Tea Amenities and attended the TV fault only when we asked to send someone to attend it.I asked Bappa many times that I want to speak with the Manager,he kept on ignoring my request but saying the Manager was not available,he even told me as soon as the Manager comes he will call me but I never got a call from him.Either he did not inform the Manager the true facts or else there was no Manager at all it seems in the Hotel.This was my second stay and due to the professional services received from Mr.Chinmoy (front desk) and the whole team,I came to this hotel again but Bappa being a Senior Front Desk staff need to learn about customer service from Mr.Chinmoy it seems.I will not recommend Sonar bangla to anyone in the near future. When management hires staffs from lodges and guest houses,one can not expect to operate any star category hotel. Empathising is an art which can do wounders in hospitality industry.I strongly felt that few unprofessional staffs are blindly given free hand to run the operations and am sure they are destroying the reputation of the hotel.
