I visited manali 3 times and always stays at Hotel Pushpak. The main plus point is its location. This hotel is just behind the mall road.
However rooms needs some renovations. The food is homely and good.
AWFUL & DIRTY

this is the worst hotel ever. we read about it in the Lonely Planet but I don't understand how it made it in there. We had no water throughout the stay, no electricity a lot of the time. sheets and duvets were filthy. the place smelt of damp. staff spoke no english and were very unhelpful - do not stay here!!!
Very filthy rooms

We arrived at about 1 am after an 18 hour bus ride from Delhi. The Lonely Planet recommends this hotel as the best budget deal in downtown Manali, also its close to the bus stop, so we were planning to go there straight away. The owner was already at the bus station looking for customers and we followed him gladly. The hotel seemed to be completely empty. The rooms seemed ok on the first look being quite large with balcony. We were very tired and didn't have energy left for bargaining, so we took the room for 500 Rupies. After realizing the carpet and curtains were sticky and dirty, the water in the bathroom was stinking like worst sewage water and was leaking (or rather spraying) out of wholes in the sink and everything in the room smelled of foul dampness and old cigarette smoke we asked for another room. Slightly annoyed they gave us another one which was about as bad as the first one. Because we were stupid enough to pay right on arrival and being just awfully tired we stayed the night and left early the next morning.
Only positive things are: the rooms would have potential if renovated and we did not have any problems with parasites.
If you go to Manali which is a beautiful place make sure you go straight on to old Manali. There you'll find tons of nice and cheap backpacker options.
on Aug 25, 2015
