Dont go by first impressions
on Nov 7, 2017
We stayed here on 18 Oct 2017 and when you enter the hotel it does look a bit outdated.
The rooms are clean, plenty of Hot water, good AC but the FOOD is excellent.
WE had the 4 course evening meal and the presentation and flavours were exceptional for a hotel of this size.
Thanks to all the staff and particularly the Manager for making our stay memorable.
Only for lunch
on Nov 2, 2017
Stopped by for lunch after pre ordering. The food was reasonably good and there were a few pleasant surprises like roasted pumpkin soup, pork curry and watalappam.
It's quite a distance away from the main road and down a narrow bumpy road. It appears to be an illegal construction built over the thousands of years old archaeological rampart.
The hotel doesn't look like a good place to stay. Many rough edges and zero finer touches. There is a deck with a open view over the lake but the chairs on the deck are dirty and not fit for sitting. Although the Hotel is by the Lake it's not a bathing spot. just the scenic view.
Alcohol is available
A great place to stay in Tissamaharama

I was in a doubt to select this hotel because of some reviews on Tripadvisor but I am happy to say that Lake Wind Hotel is an ideal place to stay close to Kataragama. The hotel is located in a very beautiful place next to the Tissa Lake. All rooms are with lake view, A/C and beautiful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. They have a nice restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The foods are delicious. All of the staff are very kind and friendly for guests. Free WiFi is available for all rooms. Also they have a nice Swimming pool close to the lake. I made the booking through the phone and I had to pay a small amount as the reservation fee to their local bank. we can contact the hotel through Viber and Whatsapp application so it was very convenient when I contacted them from overseas.

Spent one night in the Lake Wind hotel after Yala safari.
Nice location at the lake, even the wind was lovely.
The staff at reception and restaurant were very kind and made any effort to please you.
The dinner at the restaurant was good, they served us at the terrace overlooking the lake under a huge tree. We enjoyed it.
No water supply for more than an hour. Quite an unpleasant situation coming back from safari. The staff tried to compensate us with free bottle of wine, which was very nice.
Our room terrace was locked.
A lot of small flies around the lamp.
Shabby bed linen.
I think with some small improvements this hotel could be very good.
Wind from the lake will sooth your minds
on Aug 8, 2017
I've always wanted to stay near a lake and enjoy the feeling. There is 24 hour continuous wind flowing across the property and it is really mind relaxing.
Pros: View of the lake from the propery is awesome. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and tidy with all necessaries. Staff is kind and helpful.
Cons: One of the ac machines did not work properly and we felt the warmth outside. There was a bad smell when we entered the room which I think is from the bathrooms. The food is really overpriced so we took all meals from outside.
Tips: Take a bath in the pool around 4pm which has a clear view of the lake and sit on the benches which are kept outside with the views of the lake. Visit Tissamaharama temple around 7pm which is so beautiful and peaceful at night. On the way buy some fried fish sold near the tissa lake and eat them after taking your dinner in the benches with the view of lake. That feeling with the breeze you will never forget. Also buy your meals outside, there are plenty of restaurants in the town.
