WHOLESOME SOUTH INDIAN
on Sep 19, 2017
It is an old, popular, ever crowded eatery with boarding facility with some modernistic features, offering South Indian varieties. I have known it for decades and panned to revisit it my Kolkata family unit during the present trip.
It was a small disappointment though the food that we took had the flavour and taste of South India but nothing was special. Rates, these days, are palatable at any place you go!
Most unhygenic food

We were 12 people who went for breakfast on 6th Aug 2017 at 10.30.The idlis and diwas were not good,I complained and they changed but again not good.Anyway we ate some, and left more than half. When we came back all of us got sick, some down very severely with stomach and some with very frequently loose motion. So uncomfortable it was that till now nobody has been able to take any food.I even rang up to the hotel at about 6 o clock to inform them about this so that they could take remedial measure. The person who took the call heard everything and then told that the manager was not in his seat and he will call you in 10 mins. But the time is 10 o clock and still he has not called. Its very bad attitude that the restaurant damn cares about any complaints. This has been my last visit to this restaurant and I will never step into this restaurant again
A good budget hotel but only for south Indian

I stayed their for 2 days during the month of june 2017 for my exam. The rooms are good as per the budget. The Ac in my room sounds badly. Though other things were good. Rooms are clean. Washroom also very clean. The wifi speed also ok though sometime it ran slow. The only problem is it only serves south indian food and some pizzas. If you are south indian and looking for a budget stay in kolkata then it is good option for you. But, if you dont like south indian dishes like me then please avoid.

South in East

Eventually favourite for people from South especially Tamilnadu. Authetic south Indian food and atmosphere. Rooms are very basic with reasonable amenitied like phone, TV, hot water, room service etc., however is a very old building and look. Good for family and leisure trips. Proximal to metro (2 minutes walk to Jatin Das Park which connects to most of the important locations and areas in the city upto to Dum Dum. Walkable distance to Kali Ghat. Well connected by buses, shared auto rickshaws (location called "Manohar Pukur" generally pronounced as "manor pukur") Just few minutes auto drive to Gariahat (popular shopping area), Birla Mandir. Few metro stations away to Park Street (access to New Market--SS Hogg's market).
