We stayed in the top floor luxury suites, wonderful! (once you get up there, the stairs are very steep). Personnel were competent and friendly and dining was excellent. The owner is charming, with many interesting life stories to tell, and the entire complex is perfectly furnished and in line with the old world charm of a fine heritage hotel. This would be a great place to rest and relax for a few days, away from the chaos of Jaipur and also near some other sites. Unfortunately we only had one night. Too bad! The only neo would be in bathroom fixture maintenance but I am confident that with the new management this will soon be remedied.... More
Stay in a Rajasthani palace
on Nov 11, 2019
Bara Bungalow was a peaceful respite in the heart of Rajasthan. Even though it was still under renovation when we were there (they honored the previous management's contract with Road Scholar, even though they weren't officially open), the manager and staff took excellent care of us. The rooms and grounds are magical, and will be even better when they finish the project. I woke each morning to the sounds of prayer in the nearby temple and mosque and to the sounds of peacocks and doves. The chef is wonderful. Ask for an Indian cooking class if you can. We were there for two weeks, and by the end of the first week, the staff felt like family--though they were always professional, their warmth shone through. The manager and staff bent over backwards to accommodate our needs and make us feel comfortable.
Be aware, you are in a small village, not the city. For me, that was one of the charms, especially because I was on a program volunteering to teach English in the local school (Teaching English in the Princely State of Rajasthan with Road Scholar). That experience allowed me to get to know villagers and interact in ways I wouldn't as a regular tourist. But you can get out and explore the market, engage with the villagers, join in a service at one of the temples, ask to visit the school. This isn't a tourist village, so you won't experience the pushiness of vendors and merchants that you'll find in the cities and tourist spots. The area is rich with wildlife: wild camels and antelope in the nearby village of Mundota (which has it's own castle), peacocks, green doves, parakeets, monkeys, etc.
The ride to the historical sites at Jaipur is about an hour away.... More
Splendid Royal Treatment!
on Sep 27, 2019
Superbly well maintained property. You get the feeling of living inn a royal haveli or a palace. Very attentive staff and because this is a boutique property, and not managed like a corporate hotel, we got a very personalized treatment. We stayed here for 2 nights for our anniversary and were thoroughly pampered by the staff. We would like to come back to Bara Bungalow again.... More
