A Memory That Will Last A Lifetime

Casa Menezes is a beautiful 400 year old home, which has been owned by the hosts family all this time. It is located in a lovely quiet rural area, not too far from anywhere in a central location and most places are just a short ride away by taxi. On our 2 night stay we visited Old Goa, the local villages, local beaches & Panjim for a bit of shopping. But it would also be easy to visit the busier tourist areas of Baga/Calungute/Candolim if this is what you required. A Taxi can be booked for 1800 Rupees for approximately 8 hours.
Our room was one of the two Balcony Heritage Suite's, this really is a lovely room on the 1st floor, so the views across the garden and surrounding area are great. The room had aircon, a lovely antique bed and a great bathroom with rain shower head. It felt like home from home and was immediately easy to settle. The minibar with a selection of alcoholic and none alcoholic drinks is also provided on an honesty basis.
Casa Menezes's own Restaurant/Bar, Tavern 304 is immediately opposite, across the quite road, the pool is also located here. This is also frequented by the locals on a weekend. We ate there 3 times and each time the food was great and the staff we're courteous. I ordered crab for the following evening and they went out and purchased it for me so that it was fresh. I can also honestly say that Arun the barman/mixologist made the best Mojito out of all the places I drank in Goa, so give this a try.
We were staying out of peak season so were the only guests at Casa Menezes and because of this David said that we would be eating our breakfast with them in their home, rather than in the restaurant. We ate with David, his mum, uncle, 2 other relatives and his partner Nicole. It didn't feel awkward like we were guests, we felt like friends of the family, the conversation flowed like we'd known each other for years. All the food was beautiful, but the Green Chutney was my favourite served up with the local bread.
David has a few bicycles for hire at a very reasonable rate. He had just taken delivery of a tandem, so I and my other half went for a ride around the villages, to see the local beauty spots and the real rural Goa. The villagers were amazed as most had only ever seen a tandem on TV or in books. We stopped off at a local shop to buy a drink and the boy who lived there eye's were transfixed on this bike, so much so I took him for a short ride. I suspect this made his day/week/month as he was grinning like a Cheshire cat by the time we got back. The family were so poor, but they gave us an iced lolly and would not take payment. It's experiences like this that make a holiday special.
David is the most delightful host and really makes you feel like a friend or part of the family. He even went out of his way to help out my partner when she contracted a urinary infection. He took me on the back of his scooter to the local chemist and ordered the correct drugs, which cleared up the problem straight away. On the way back David even let me have a ride on his scooter which had only done 43km.
David also took time out to have a drink with us on an evening and again conversation flowed. When we were checking out it felt like he didn't want us to leave, which again made us feel special. He advised us to contact him if we had any issues in any of our onward locations, I did contact him for advice and true to his word, he answered me straight away on Messenger.
This really, really was the best experience of an home stay we could ever have imagined, so thanks to David and his family for making it special.
Give this place a try you won't be disappointed.

A hidden gem

Imagine sleeping in a 200 year old 4- poster bed, in a room full of antique furniture but with a modern bathroom. Imagine being treated like a family member by delightful hosts you would like to have as your family. Casa Menezes is not in the tourist part of Goa which makes it so charming but a short taxi ride takes you to the beaches if that's what you want.

Beautiful house, the colour , the rooms, the food and the local tavern 304 :) what more can one ask for .. my husband, daughter and I stayed at this heritage place and enjoyed every bit of it ..sitting on the balcony one gets to enjoy one's hot cuppa tea while staring at the green fields :) Our host Pamela is great company and enjoys a good convesation. They also have pets Pheobe (apso) and Chicane (lab) who are a delight. My daughter enjoyed their company :) The Batim lake is close by and one can stroll into quiet village roads and sit by the lake. We received a tour of the beautiful house with Nicole. Also a peek into a Goan batism party and enjoying the songs.

This homestay is everything you can ask for and more. Beautiful goan architecture, amazing food, stunning art covering every wall and the most warm hosts who will show you a great time and give you a walk through goan culture.
This place is a must stay if you're looking for some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the North.

Most homely place serving authentic Goan food. Enjoyed thoroughly for 4 days in August 2017 between 24th to 27th. The nearby Our Lady of Guadulupe Church made it all the more appealing to us. With greenery all around it was a respite for the eyes which saw only a concrete jungle in Mumbai. Its location is such that one can easily reach Mapusa or Margao within 40 to 45 minutes in a car. Even Dabolin airport is just 35 minutes away by car.
