A good place to stay in Chapora
on Feb 25, 2017
Booked a room here for 4 nights, and finally stayed for all my stay in Goa. The owners are nice and friendly family, rented a motorbike from them as well (needed to leave my passport as a deposit, but I didn't feel uncomfortable about that). At first, stayed in a Basic room in a low building next to the owners' home - indeed, it's just a basic room with an outside bathroom, the main downside for me being not the facilities but poor mobile network signal (I worked online during my stay). Moved to the room on the top floor of the new building, and it was really nice, clean, new and with balcony, if not slightly more expensive compared to what I normally pay in India. No Wi-Fi, but that's not a problem if you have a mobile phone with an Internet package (I have Airtel sim card, but Idea seems to work much better in this particular place). Located in Chapora - not near the sea beach (there's wide Chapora river in front), but with motorbike it's not a problem, and, well, Chapora is more famous for it's hippie nightlife, so it's a special place. The central street of Chapora, where the action happens, is within 10 minutes walk, or 2 minutes with a motorbike, so it's not a problem either way. Vagator and Anjuna are easily accessible by motorbike as well.

Room was small for 2 people ,but there was fridge and tv,big bathroom)) clean and with good view from balcony. The place is very quiet and peaceful.Good to stay for few days, they giving bikes to rent also if I need it)
Very basic accommodation, mouldy sheets, rickety furniture and plenty of insects to keep you company.

I had found this place online and booked over the phone.
I landed here in the morning, after a long bus journey from Mumbai and I was kinda not-too-happy staying here.
Here are the pros and cons -
- The owner is a decent guy and so is his family.
- You can rent scooters easily, as the owner has a stock of two wheelers to rent from and they are in good condition.
- The location of the Guest House is good - a quaint and quiet place with little traffic and best of all, there is a nice boxing gym just opposite, which is great for a workout, because it caters to non-boxers as well.
- Tiny, somewhat seeding rooms. Though they had been swept prior to my arrival, the level of cleanliness is not too good.
- Mouldy sheets/towels
- Insects - spiders, moths and ants, as well as toads to greet you everywhere. Plus point is that you will never be lonely...but it may not bode well for the solitary types.
- No AC facilities available.
It was hot when I was there - the seedy rooms and mouldy linen was too much too handle - I checked out the same day itself, after paying the owner for the day - He was nice enough to understand my situation and didn't create any problems - so that is good...like I said, he's a nice guy.
I didn't have an opportunity to sample the food, so cant comment on that.
Yes, this is a budget hotel, but there are plenty of good ones available for exactly the same amount of money, in Chapora and Vagator itself.
I've seen two excellent reviews for this place - I think that has more to do with the connection that these people have with the owner, rather than the actual amenities afforded by the place...you can do better finding a nicer place to stay in Vagator. The people who usually stay here are repeat customers, who've been coming here for years.
This place has potential - if the owner invests a little more time and money into it, but right now it just doesn't cut it.
Accommodation constantly improving

It's a few years since I wrote a review for here, so here is an update.
Still in the hands of the same enthusiastic family who now have a new small daughter as an addition. She is around 3 and a half years and is already helping with brushing the steps. She has been born into a hard working family.
The accommodation now has another four rooms built on the third floor, all brand new.also hot water night and day from a bank of Solaris on the roof. Also all the lover pathways have Ben tiled, no more ants, and it is very, very secure. Heavy locks,a couple of guard dogs and Edmund and family live at the entrance.no one gets in or out of here without their knowing.
Tv and fridge and fan in all rooms. All usual, beer, water, laundry, bike hire, transport from airport etc on offer.
It's my seventy year here and I hope, God willing, for a few more. I am 83 so I don't look too far ahead
casa de olga in Chapora

I have stayed here twice for around 5 weeks both times. Probably the cleanest place in Chapora and only walking distance from the centre. The family will look after you well. I cannot wait to return Chapora has no sandy beach, but it is grand for use as a base to get to other areas.
