Great location and views but.....
on Dec 4, 2017
The property is in a great location with fantastic view across the tea plantations. With only 5 rooms, and only 2 occupied during our stay, it was peaceful and quiet. We stayed in the smallest room, the Blue Jay, and whilst views were great, and there was an area you could sit out on, the room fell short on certain aspects - nowhere to hang clothes, a shower very difficult to adjust to the correct temperature, threadbare shower mat and some damp on a wall. Compared to other similar priced hotels, the food provided was also very simple and of little variation over our 2 day stay. Overall, the staff were very attentive, but lacking in overall hospitality skills expected at a property pitched towards the high end of the market. A plus was the visit to a tea factory and opportunity to pick and process tea for our own cuppa!
Best Place to stay in Munnar

If you're travelling to Munnar, you must stay at Talayar Valley Bungalows. Nestled in a quiet valley about 20 kms from Munnar town, this place is a small paradise in itself. Surrounded by the Talayar Tea Estates and misty mountains every direction you look, its the perfect getaway for 2 or 3 days. There have 4 suites, of which we had the Blue Jay. It's the smallest but has the best views. The service is nothing short of outstanding. Fortunately, there was no one else when we visited so it felt like we had our own private household staff for 2 days. There is no restaurant but they cook up the most mouth-watering delicacies if you ask them, at very reasonable prices. It's a little far from the popular tourist spots, however they more than make up for it by organizing complimentary walks in their tea -estates and a visit to their tea factory. En route is a small but beautiful waterfall and stunning panoramic views of the hills and tea-gardens. Special Thanks to the manager Nikhil for making our stay so special.

Awesome, Mesmerizing and memorable experience
I stayed in Talayar bungalow for three nights in blue jay suite with my family in Aug 2017. The bungalow is located in the middle of the Tea plantation and is surrounded by beautiful mountains. Tt is slightly away from munnar (30-40 mins drive) but it is worth a visit/ stay.
This British era Bungalow with British era furniture and decorative items itself is the main attraction. Bungalow is surrounded by a nicely maintained flower garden. There are very few rooms in the bungalow so food options were limited but food quality and Service were very good. Bungalow Manager and staff are nice and attentive and offer the best service they can at all times.
Some Tips: The smallest room blue jay suite has got the best view. Stay there for At least 2 nights and spend day time in trekking and exploring surrounding areas (If you go to Munnar to visit tourist places then you will end up spending 2-2.5 hrs in travelling To and Fro.) and in the evening, enjoy the beauty of nature from bungalow.
One of the best in Munnar

I had booked the blue jay suite for our wedding anniversary.. The bunglaw and rooms are well setup and classy.. the gardens are also well kept..They called me well in advance before checkin to know whether we will be taking lunch from the bunglaw.. also very quiet and private ambience.. all the other three suites are inside the main building.. food was good and served fresh and hot.. all in all a happy experience
Peaceful, friendly and memorable experience

Staying at the Talamar is a beautiful, relaxing and homely experience. The location is stunning, nestled in the heart of a tea estate with mountains all around. The bungalow only has 4 rooms so never feels busy. We stayed in the Royal Talamar Suite which was very spacious with a lovely big window seat from which to read whilst overlooking the garden. The wifi worked in our suite. It is staffed by local boys who are super keen to help, very polite and friendly. The food is set each day, no choice but very good home cooked local curries, dahl, rice and chappatis. There is plenty of it too. The Cook is a lovely man who comes out to check you're happy with his food. We always were. You need to take your own alcohol as there is none on site and nowhere close by to buy it. If you're travelling there from Kochi then buy it in Kochi where there is more choice for tourists. You don't dine with other guests, there are a number of rooms where they serve your food including in your own suite if you wish. It's a very relaxing place, you can do some walks on the tea estate to take in the views and they also offer a free tour of their tea factory where you can make your own tea. My boyfriend celebrated his birthday whilst we were there, when I mentioned this, the boys offered to get him a cake. On the evening of his birthday, they'd decorated our table with candles and rose petals, chilled our wine in a ice bucket and got him a cake complete with candles. They went to such trouble, we were very touched by their efforts. Our last day coincided with a big holiday so our taxi couldn't reach the bungalow due to heavy traffic. The bungalow manager appeared with a jeep and drove us 20km to Munnar to meet our car, talking to our driver all the way to coordinate our handover. The staff really make this place, they are all lovely. Special thanks to AJ, Nighal and the bungalow manager for going above and beyond to make our stay special. This is more like staying in a beautiful home then a anonymous slick 5 star hotel. This isn't the place for you if you want to be busy or have Taj style service but do go if you want to have a quiet, relaxed, slightly quirky but ultimately memorable experience.
