Very nice location in the middle of the woods. Many bird and good guiding. Would have liked to hike a little bit more through the forest but the guide showed a great Number of bird! Great experience. Easy to reach by scooter from the coast in about 2hours.
A must for birders visiting Goa
on Jan 11, 2017
My 3rd visit to Backwoods Camp and as always a wonderful experience. It is primarily for birders, yet my wife who is not a birder had an excellent time. Situated in a camp in Mollem National Park the accommodation is perfectly adequate and all meals are supplied - typical Indian fare and plenty of it ! To me the best part is the 3 guided walks daily whether you are looking at forest birds, chasing nightjars and owls or simply waiting for kingfishers to show. Have birded all my life and have to say the Leio is one of the best guides that I have used, his eyesight and hearing is phenomenal and he bubbles over with enthusiasm. The bottom line is that you will see considerably more bird species with Leio than if you bird on your own and also have a fun time.
Well worth a visit

We took a 3 day trip here from Marinha Dourada resort. We were collected by minibus early morning, birdwatched en route, and got here for breakfast. The rooms are tiny but lovely and the staff bring smoking hot water for you to shower with (though it's so hot here that cold water is fine!). The meals were all good, not spicy enough for me, but plenty of good food. Beer and soft drinks can be purchased, bottled water was complimentary. Each day had 3 excursions for birding, with time in between for walking around the grounds, swimming in the river if you are brave enough, or just sitting watching the wildlife. The staff are very helpful. There's no air-con, but there are decent ceiling fans in the 4 rooms. Not sure that I would have fancied the tents though.
Great Birding a must for Birders

What a place, took the wife as a non birder, she enjoyed the stay.
my thanks to all the staff and birders who looked after us.
Facilities were basic at best but perfect for the camp, food was delicious, rooms comfy
It was so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the resort, no wi fi, telly, phones, Heaven, plus you can get a cold beer
If you want to add 50 + birds to your list this is the place
Once again thanks to all at Backwoods
Must-do experience of outdoor enjoyment, especially for birders

Our time at Backwoods was better than our expectations. The staff pampered us and did all they could to help meet our desires for our time there. Loven (one of the owners who has been birding for more than 18 years, took us out birding 2 to 3 times a day, and we loved seeing his joy of discovery and his desire to pass that on to us and even the little kids (and adults) around! He would allow them to look through his scope to grow in them a wonder of nature and birds. He worked tirelessly to give us opportunities to see the birds we hoped to see. He is so skilled. We saw more than few hard-to-see birds, including the grey-necked bunting, the black-throated munia, the black-backed dwarf kingfisher and the Malabar Trogan, to name a few. Even the other staff would come and tell us if there was an interesting bird at the birdbath! They were all so accomodating, including being willing to take US dollars, since while we were there, the country was experiencing an ATM problem in the country (we could only get a small amount of local currency each day). We highly recommend you spend at least 3 days there, as Bondla nature reserve is one of the places they will take you. The birding excursions are part of the price of the stay and the cost includes your food as well. They don't have hot water for showers, but will bring a bucket of hot water. There are lots of photos of birds on the walls, as well as bird books to refer to. If you aren't a birder, it would be an adventure you will never forget. You will walk away with a new appreciation for nature and for birds. December was a great time to go, as far as weather goes. We hope we can go again someday! Thanks Loven and the rest of the staff and cooks at Backwoods!
