Middle of the road

Ok hotel which doesn't have to offer too much as the competition in Springfield doesn't either. Easy to find and plenty of parking. Rooms itself was very basic but big enough and the beds acceptable. Breakfast was simple but sufficient. Easy walk into downtown.

Made our reservation on an online booking site, received a confirmation and when we arrived there was no record of our reservation. They would not honor the online price so we paid $58 more to stay. The room was fine, a bit worn, but clean. The beds were ok, the breakfast was your regular free hotel breakfast. The hotel is close to downtown, walking distance to the Lincoln Presidential museum. However, it is also close to a homeless shelter and the homeless were begging everywhere. We've been to Springfield several times, and wanted to stay closer to downtown this time. I will most likely look elsewhere next time we go . There was no one at the front desk each time we went thru the lobby. The night were checked in the front desk girl was actually upstairs while we were waiting at the desk. Other times the front desk person was out front smoking. Not a horrible place but didn't leave a pleasant impression on us.
Great value just north of downtown.

Has become my go-to in Springfield for economy. Rooms are comfy, breakfast is sufficient, and the price is right. It's not quite as convenient as the places closer to downtown and the Capitol, but closer than the chains on the outskirts off the highway. It's an easy walk to this hotel from the Amtrak, and if weather is OK, not too bad a hike into downtown. Kind of far from the Capitol complex -- but they have a free little shuttle bus that you can arrange to take!
Close to Illinois State Fair Grounds

This is an older hotel, but it was clean with friendly service. They had a frig and microwave in the room and free breakfast. (waffles, biscuits, cereal yogurt, coffee, juices, bagels). You can walk to downtown Springfield to the Abraham Lincoln museum. They also have a free shuttle during the time the Fair is open. The shuttle takes you to and from the fair and anywhere within 5 miles. The Amtrak train is what we took and it was 5 minutes away.

There wasn't really anything special about this hotel other than it was close to the historic district. Our room was "tired" looking. It needed "refreshed". It needed new paint, carpeting, etc. The bed was comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was the usual food you find at most hotels that offer free breakfast. Everything tasted good. They offer a free shuttle service m-f that will drop you off or pick you up within 5 miles of the hotel. We didnt use it but it's something to remember.
Everything was within walking distance except Lincoln's tomb. The Lincoln museum is 2 blocks away, The house Lincoln was approx. 6-7 blocks. We are in our 60's and other than being really hot out, the walk wasn't bad at all.
