    Horrid experience with Amberina. Not worth the effort to get there or the money paid. Hoping this review, helps other would be travelers. Wrong information regarding location and distance: We were assured by the resort Manager that Amberina was located enroute near Gudalur between Masanagudi and Ooty, where we were heading. Amberina staff guaranteed that it was just 20 minutes enroute from Gadular. However, the road to Amberina took us through a long and convoluted detour which was over an 45 minutes hours from Gudalur Junction. On our way there, we were warned by our local driver/ guide that, the route was nowhere near the road to Ooty and that we had been lied to. No parking near Resort: Once we reached Amberina (much later than we expected) we were informed that we could not park our vehicle near the resort and were asked to park it near the base of the hill slope. Rooms given to another party: A week prior to the trip, we had booked 2 luxury rooms, via Makemytrip, for our family of 5. We telephonically confirmed this with the Manager at Amberina that we would like adjacent luxury rooms. However, when we arrived in Amberina, we found that the rooms were situated in different buildings with one room an individual cottage and another in a block with the mess hall. The rooms we had booked had apparently been given to another party who had arrived earlier that morning. Subpar Rooms : When we finally saw the rooms allocated to us, we were disappointed to find that instead of finding 2 luxury rooms we had booked and paid for, one was just a regular room. The rooms were subpar and did not resemble the rooms found in the photos in Makemytrip website. When we asked about the gloomy and musty rooms to the manager, the staff maintained that they had the right to change furniture and look of their rooms. Attitude of staff: Over all the disappointments with Amberina, it was the glib attitude of the staff, that finally was the last straw for us. When our local driver/guide informed him about the distance to Ooty, the manager's snarky reply was "Have you ever been to Ooty?". When we asked if anything could be done regarding the room arrangements, his answer could be summed up with 'take it or leave it' attitude . He also blatantly informed us that Amberina primarily depended only on direct guests and not on guests like us who come via website bookings. Though it was late in the evening by then and we had made no alternate arrangements and had already paid for the rooms, we decided against staying in Amberina, disgusted with the accommodation and the staff attitude. We informed Makemytrip of the entire fiasco and even emailed them photos of the rooms as further evidence of the condition of the rooms. During a conference call with Makemytrip and Amberina management, the Amberina staff on call maintained that they are not answerable to anybody including Makemytrip regarding the look of the rooms. This is blatant false advertising. Makemytrip was sympathetic to our plight and repeatedly apologized for the whole thing (though it was not their fault). They were kind enough to refund a portion of the bill amount. I must note here, that though I am frequent traveler and a repeat customer of Makemytrip, I have never posted a negative comment about any of the hotels I have stayed at. I usually just adjust and forget about it later. But my experience at Amberina had to be documented to warn other travelers.     Nestled among the hills & tea gardens as far as one can see, this serene little spot is, what it should be, restful. About 15 Km from the Gudalur town, we had to call Mr Vinod, the ever attentive Manager looking after the property, for direction. On arrival we were speechless , and it helped. Never before we have heard so many varieties of Birds chirping together, sound of tree branches brushing against one another in the gentle breeze or water from a natural spring nearby is flowing into the wading pool inside . True feast for ears and eyes. Victorian in design, the property allows to completely relax and enjoy the surrounding natural beauty, while all your needs are being taken care of by efficient staffs supervised by Mr Vinod. Food is bit expensive but itโ€™s elaborate, portions are huge and delectable. Our stay became truly memorable due to one incident which happened by chance and we were plain lucky. We were woken up early in the dawn because of some disturbance somewhere nearby. When we came out of the room, we were greeted by the amazing site of a big herd of elephants, inside the estate, about 50 meters from the bungalow, being chased away. That was unforgettable. One suggestion for further improvement. Bad road condition in the last 1 Km stretch and the expensive food in the estate makes it difficult for the Car driver to go to Devala town, about 6 -7 Km away, everytime to have food, particularly in night time.     Blissful Vacation ? Go for it !

    you will be carried away with the ambiance especially the pool that gets filled with natural spring water.. The food and staff gesture was nice. Overall we had a very pleasant stay. The only disappointment was that we planned a very short trip and couldn't extend for another day. Please plan for two nights so that you can relax and thoroughly enjoy..... More

    Peacefulness and excellent service in great natures hide-out

    Very peaceful and a relaxed stay in a Victorian bungalow in the midst of a beautifully maintained tea estate. Excellent customer service especially by Vinodh ji and very courteous staff. The owner of this property is very humble and helpful. If you are looking for a peaceful and quiet stay then this is the place perfect for any vacation. Only drawback is that they don't accept Card ๐Ÿ˜... More

  4. Failure to check-in to the hotel, will attract the full cost of stay or penalty as per the hotel cancellation policy.
  5. Hotels charge a compulsory Gala Dinner Supplement during Christmas, New Year's eve or other special events and festivals like Diwali or Dusshera. These additional charge are not included in the booking amount and will be collected directly at the hotel.
  6. There might be seasonal variation in hotel tariff rates during Peak days, for example URS period in Ajmer or Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, the room tariff differences if any will have to be borne and paid by the customer directly at the hotel, if the booking stay period falls during such dates.
  7. All additional charges other than the room charges and inclusions as mentioned in the booking voucher are to be borne and paid separately during check-out. Please make sure that you are aware of all such charges that may comes as extras. Some of them can be WiFi costs, Mini Bar, Laundry Expenses, Telephone calls, Room Service, Snacks etc.

  11. In case of increase in tariff during the URS period in Ajmer or Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, the customer is liable to pay the difference if the Check-in date falls during those periods.
