55B GUEST HOUSE
on May 24, 2019
The property is located at good location of South Kolkata. Easily accessible from the Howrah station by Taxi which cost between Rs.400-500. The reception area is very small & lift as well can accommodate only 4 people at a time. CheckIn was quick & Manager advised us to place order for dinner by 7pm if wish to have. For sightseeing he only suggest us book OLA for a day & we did it.
Room size was Ok bit compact. They only have two single beds in rooms & when combined creates a gap causing discomfort to people with children. Wash room was clean but lack any exhaust fan which is really a concern.
The buffet breakfast is served on second floor.
On Election day we placed order for lunch in house as outside everything closed. Food was good but all dishes have little sweet in it which we didn't like. They should inform the guest in advance about this especially for non Bengalis.
Overall stay was good & satisfactory
Terrible experience, will never stay in this guest house

I had a terrible experience, booked for six nights, but left after one night. I booked a deluxe room but I was given a normal room with the same price. I requested the caretaker to show me other rooms but he refused and told me nothing can be done in absence of the manager. Next morning when I decided to leave the guest house, the manager told me that I need to pay the same amount that was agreed for the deluxe room. WiFi in the room does not work.
The guests should be also careful in booking rent-a-car through the guest house manager Bishwarup Bhoumik. He charges at least 50 rupees per hour more than the usual price in Calcutta. He also charged me double the price of airport pick up and insisted that I pay it in cash. The manager is a rude person and I will never stay in this guest house ever. The only plus point of this guest house is the location.

Was a pleasant stay with breakfast and courteous staff .
An ideal place to most of the shopping areas and to Rene Towers where we were headed to the vfs office.
Uber is 500 rs from the Airport to 55B.
Adequate guesthouse close to Jadavpur Uni
on Nov 6, 2018
I chose 55B because of the trip advisor reviews and because it is a 10-minute ride from Jadavpur University. Except that the beds are pretty hard (like almost all Indian hotels) and the service is pretty casual (eg I had to ask to have my room made up and laundry took four days) it has been adequate. The bathrooms are functional and clean, the aircon is excellent, the wifi is reliable. Few of the staff speak much English - 95% of guests are Indian or Bangladeshi - but it's mostly been OK. Getting breakfast has been a problem - none of the local cafes open early, but I've managed on bananas and street stalls. There are lots of restaurants within a few hundred yards of the guesthouse in the Hindustan Park area (most not on Tripadvisor). I stayed for a week during Diwali, so the streets are pretty noisy (fireworks and pandals) but Hindustan Park is pretty quiet by Kolkata standards. It's not in central Kolkata - but it also doesn't cost as much - and it's much bettervalue than the Fairlawn or the Lytton on Sudder Street.

Stayed for 3 nights. Good, clean a
Nd spacious rooms. The breakfast was a real treat.. traditional bong breakfast with luchi , prota and one day Chana Batura.. the staff and cook are very caring. The best part of 55B is its location.. literally at the heart of Kolkata. Next to Gariahat! It will be my bucket list to stay in this place during Durga puja.. it will be an experience!!
