About Gaya

Gaya is the second largest city in Bihar, and also one of its oldest. According to written records it has existed since the time of Gautama Buddha, and possibly before that as well. Gautama Buddha meditated, for a few years, in the caves around Gaya. These caves are known as the Dungeshwari Caves, and the place where he finally attained enlightenment is known as Bodh Gaya.
