About Air Canada

Air Canada is the national flag carrier of Canada. It is also the largest airline and in the Canadian market. It is one of the founding members of the Star Alliance. The airline has its major commercial hubs at four Canadian airports which are Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary.

The airline was founded and began operations in the year 1936 under the name Trans-Canada Air Lines. Later on in 1965 it was called Air Canada and commenced operations under that banner.

Given its warm reception, growth and constant improvement, it has been awarded on numerous occasions. Some of the accolades that it got are:

  • 2012 - Ranked for a third consecutive year as the ’Best International Airline in North America’ by Skytrax.

  • 2012 - Was the preferred airline for more than 79 percent of frequent business travellers in Canada based on a survey conducted by Canadian Business Travel.

Air Canada has two frequent-flyer programs. They are Air Canada Altitude and Aeroplan.

Air Canada Destinations

Air Canada currently flies to 21 domestic destinations and 81 international destinations. Some of the international destinations include United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France and United States. It flies across Asia, America, Europe and the Oceania.

If amalgamated with its partners, it serves in excess of 180 destinations across 47 countries on six continents around the globe.

Air Canada Fleet and Network

The current in-service fleet of Air Canada comprises 18 Airbus A319-100s, 42 Airbus A320-200s, 15 Airbus A321-200s, eight Airbus A330-300, 10 Boeing 767-300ERs, six Boeing 777-200LRs, 19 Boeing 777-300ERs, eight Boeing 787-8, 21 Boeing 787-9s and 25 Embraer 190s. They have ordered 33 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, 28 Boeing 737 MAX 9s, eight Boeing 787-9s and 45 Bombardier CS300s. This will help expand their route map and services.

The airline also has code sharing agreements in place with over 30 international airlines. A few of those include Aegean Airlines, Aer Lingus, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Etihad Airways, Eurowings and EVA Air etc.
